Welcome to Mareu, a digital e-hailing platform operated by JimTeck (Pty) Ltd, a company registered in the Republic of South Africa.
These Terms and Conditions govern access to and use of the Mareu website, Rider Application, Driver Application, and related services.
By creating an account, accessing, or using Mareu, you acknowledge that you have read and understood these Terms and agree to be bound by them.
Mareu provides a technology platform that connects individuals seeking transportation services with independent transportation providers.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, Mareu does not directly provide transportation services, own vehicles used for trips, or employ drivers as transportation service employees.
Nothing in these Terms limits any rights or protections that users are entitled to under applicable South African law.
1.2 Eligibility and Registration
To use Mareu, users must:
- Provide accurate and complete registration information.
- Maintain a valid email address and mobile number.
- Keep their account credentials secure.
- Use the platform only for lawful purposes.
- Comply with applicable South African legislation.
Users must not create accounts using false identities or impersonate other individuals.
Minors may use Mareu only where permitted by applicable law and with appropriate parental or legal guardian authorisation.
Mareu reserves the right to verify user information where reasonably necessary.
1.3 User Accounts
Each registered user is responsible for activities conducted through their account, except where unauthorised access results from circumstances for which the user is not legally responsible.
Users must notify Mareu immediately if they suspect unauthorised account access.
Mareu may suspend or restrict accounts where there is reasonable evidence of fraudulent activity, security threats, or violations of these Terms.
1.4 Rider Responsibilities
Riders agree to:
- Provide accurate pickup and destination information.
- Be present at the designated pickup location.
- Treat drivers respectfully.
- Follow reasonable safety instructions.
- Avoid damaging vehicles.
- Refrain from unlawful or dangerous behaviour.
- Pay applicable transportation charges.
- Avoid making fraudulent ride requests.
Riders must not request transportation services for unlawful purposes.
1.5 Driver Responsibilities
Drivers registered on Mareu operate as independent transportation providers, subject to applicable law and the actual nature of their relationship with Mareu.
Drivers must:
- Hold a valid driving licence.
- Maintain a valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP), where required.
- Comply with applicable operating licence requirements.
- Maintain legally required vehicle documentation.
- Ensure their vehicles are roadworthy.
- Maintain appropriate insurance.
- Follow applicable road traffic laws.
- Provide safe and professional transportation services.
- Maintain accurate account and banking information.
Drivers are responsible for ensuring their vehicles remain legally compliant throughout their use of the platform.
Mareu may require periodic document verification.
1.6 Driver Verification
Before being approved to accept trips, drivers may be required to complete identity, document, and vehicle verification.
Verification may include:
- Identity document verification.
- Driving licence verification.
- PrDP verification.
- Facial identity verification.
- Vehicle registration verification.
- Roadworthiness verification.
- Banking information verification.
Mareu may conduct additional verification where reasonably necessary for safety, fraud prevention, or regulatory compliance.
Submission of documents does not guarantee approval.
1.7 Ride Requests and Bookings
Riders may request transportation through the Mareu Rider Application.
Mareu attempts to match ride requests with available drivers based on factors such as location, availability, and service category.
Driver availability is not guaranteed.
A booking is confirmed only when the applicable booking requirements have been satisfied.
Mareu may decline or cancel bookings where there are reasonable safety, operational, legal, or payment-related concerns.
1.8 Trip Pricing
Trip prices may be calculated using:
- Travel distance.
- Estimated travel duration.
- Vehicle category.
- Applicable demand conditions.
- Available promotions.
- Other disclosed pricing factors.
Riders will be presented with the applicable fare before confirming payment.
The final fare may be adjusted where the journey materially changes, including changes to the destination or actual trip distance, provided the adjustment is fair and consistent with applicable law.
1.9 Payments
Mareu facilitates payments through secure payment processing services.
Depending on the payment method and booking process, riders may be required to complete payment before a trip begins.
Users agree to provide accurate payment information and authorise payments associated with confirmed transactions.
Payment methods may vary according to availability and operational requirements.
Mareu may decline or suspend transactions where fraudulent or unauthorised activity is reasonably suspected.
Payment disputes and refunds are handled according to the Mareu Refund Policy.
1.10 Driver Earnings and Withdrawals
Eligible drivers may request withdrawals of available earnings through the Mareu Driver Application.
The following standard withdrawal conditions apply:

The first eligible standard withdrawal in each calendar week is free.
Additional standard withdrawals during the same week are subject to the applicable withdrawal fee.
For purposes of this policy, a calendar week runs from Monday to Sunday, South African Standard Time.
Where immediate withdrawals are available, any applicable fees will be displayed before confirmation.
Withdrawals may only be made to verified bank accounts registered to the driver's profile.
Processing times depend on the relevant banking and payment systems.
Any other applicable driver charges or deductions will be disclosed through the Driver Application or the applicable Driver Agreement before they are incurred.
1.11 Promotions and Discounts
Mareu may introduce promotional campaigns for eligible users.
New riders may qualify for an introductory promotion offering:
- 20% off their first two qualifying completed trips.
- A maximum discount of R30 per qualifying trip.
- Cancelled or unsuccessful trips do not count towards the two-trip promotional entitlement.
Promotions cannot be exchanged for cash unless expressly stated.
Mareu reserves the right to prevent promotional abuse and may modify future promotions after providing appropriate notice.
1.12 Cancellations
Riders and drivers may cancel ride requests through the relevant application.
Cancellation fees, where applicable, must be reasonable and disclosed in accordance with applicable law.
Where a driver cancels a trip before transportation begins, the rider will ordinarily be entitled to a refund of any payment made for the unfulfilled service.
Refunds are governed by the Mareu Refund Policy.
1.13 Safety and Acceptable Conduct
Mareu is committed to promoting a safe transportation environment.
The following conduct is prohibited:
- Harassment or intimidation.
- Violence or threats.
- Discrimination.
- Fraudulent transactions.
- Dangerous driving.
- Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Unauthorised use of another person's account.
- Deliberate damage to property.
- Unlawful transportation activities.
Mareu may investigate reported incidents and take appropriate action, including account suspension.
In emergencies, users should contact the relevant emergency services.
1.14 Account Suspension and Termination
Mareu may suspend, restrict, or terminate accounts where reasonably necessary due to:
- Fraudulent activity.
- Serious safety concerns.
- Repeated violations of these Terms.
- Invalid or expired driver documentation.
- Unlawful conduct.
- Security threats.
- Failure to meet applicable platform requirements.
Where appropriate, users will be notified and given an opportunity to respond.
1.15 Service Availability
Mareu aims to maintain reliable platform availability.
However, services may occasionally be interrupted due to maintenance, technical failures, network disruptions, or circumstances beyond Mareu's reasonable control.
Mareu does not guarantee uninterrupted access.
1.16 Limitation of Liability
Mareu operates as a technology platform facilitating transportation arrangements.
To the extent permitted by law, Mareu will not be liable for losses caused solely by circumstances outside its reasonable control.
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded under South African law.
1.17 Intellectual Property
All Mareu trademarks, branding, software, website content, and associated intellectual property belong to JimTeck (Pty) Ltd or its applicable licensors.
Users may not reproduce, distribute, or commercially exploit Mareu intellectual property without appropriate authorisation.
1.18 Changes to These Terms
Mareu may update these Terms to reflect changes in legislation, operations, or platform functionality.
Material changes will be communicated through appropriate channels.
Continued use following valid notification may constitute acceptance where legally permitted.
